Job Overview:

This position reports to the CFO of the ACH business (headquartered in Oakbrook), but is responsible and oversees all aspects of the North American corporate income taxes and is viewed as a trusted business advisor throughout the organization. This position will have exposure across all the North American businesses and opportunities to work with finance and accounting, legal and other teams on tax compliance, reporting, and planning. The U.S. Tax Manager interacts regularly with the ABF tax team in the UK. Candidates should be self-motivated with the ability to work independently while communicating with contacts in multiple locations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Unless otherwise noted responsibilities are for the entire ABF North America Corp. group of companies and Canadian Entities (Branches): ABFNA Corp., ABFNA Holdings, ACH, ACH Jupiter/Stratas JV, AB Vista, PGP,   Germains, Abitec, AB Mauri, OHLY, SPI, Twinings, and Primark US.
  • Manages and forecasts the U.S. group's effective tax rate, including analysis of variance to budget rates and explanations to the central tax team in the UK.
  • Handles federal and state income tax return compliance for the consolidated U.S. group, and general compliance with all federal tax laws and regulations.
  • Handles provision of tax support to the various North American businesses and head office relating to day-to-day business activities, business expansion and M&A transactions.
  • Prepare and review quarterly and year-end IFRS tax provision reporting packages for U.K. parent. This will include coordinating information requests from operating companies, calculating taxable income, deferred tax balances and tax cash flow estimates.
  • Participate in monthly update calls with ABF Group Tax Director to update status and assist in follow up items.
  • Review new tax legislation and advise on the implications for the U.S. group's effective tax rate and cash tax payments.
  • Preparation and review of corporate income tax returns including U.S. Federal pro-forma and consolidated, and state and local returns.
  • Assist outside service provider with the Company's annual R&D credit study and other Federal/State credits.
  • Work with outside accounting firm to coordinate internal work paper and returns review within the filing deadlines.
  • Prepare and review federal and state tax estimated payments. Participate in state income tax audits including information review and correspondence with the states.
  • Recognize U.S. tax risk and U.S. tax opportunities and discussing with the broader ABF tax team (and outside accounting firms, where appropriate).  
  • Identify U.S. transfer pricing exposures and work with the ABF International Tax Manager and outside accounting firm to manage risks and document positions taken.
  • Representing tax on M&A projects, for example preparing and presenting tax models, advising on negotiation positions and reviewing contracts.
  • Handle project work including implementation of group structure reorganizations.
  • Assist local entities with income tax, sales tax, franchise tax, and property tax questions and audits as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance; Master's Degree in Taxation or Accounting preferred
  • CPA
  • 8+ years of post-graduate Tax Accounting experience
  • Public accounting or combination of public/private
  • Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of corporate tax return preparation/tax provision software such as Thomson Reuters OneSource Income Tax, BNA Fixed Assets, etc.
