Job Overview:

This role will direct the Safety and Environmental programs throughout ACH while working from, and managing the activities at our Plant site. Responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring Corporate safety/environmental programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental health and safety regulations. Improves safety performance within ACH and reduces worker's compensation costs through effective safety procedures, training, safety audits, and claims management at each facility.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains current knowledge of safety & environmental rules and regulations at the federal, state and local level. Educates the team of pertinent changes.
  • Develops, updates, and implements workplace policies, programs, and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Leads the development of long term plans for the continual improvement in safety performance.
  • Engages the wider management team at all ACH sites to own safety and environmental programs. Coaches and mentors ACH staff / employees to recognize risks and how to avert them. Sponsors sharing of best practices and experiences between facilities.
  • Establishes and tracks appropriate leading and lagging safety and environmental metrics. Reviews and submits annual reports as needed.
  • Ensures management teams conduct routine inspections and audits to identify gaps. Maintains a prioritized list of improvements.
  • Leads any governmental agency inspections, and completes any follow-up actions.
  • Manages the completion of risk assessments, incident investigations, and corrective / preventative controls.
  • Develops, maintains, and shares the implementation of employee training programs.
  • Strategically guides and facilitates the direction of the corporate office effort by working closely with the Office Services Coordinator.
  • Responsible to be the HS&E conduit into other ABF organizations in North America and globally.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering or a related science.
  • 7-10 years of related experience in environmental and safety area, preferably in food manufacturing and wastewater compliance, waste management or air permitting.
  • Demonstrated ability in use of PC software packages, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Analytical Synthesizes complex or diverse information, Collects and researches data, Designs work flows and procedures.
  • Problem Solving Identifies, and resolves problems in a timely manner, Gather and analyzes information skillfully, Develops alternative solutions.
  • Written Communication Writes clearly and informatively, Presents numerical data effectively, Able to read and interpret written information.
  • Judgment Displays willingness to make decisions, Exhibits sound and accurate judgment, Makes timely decisions, Flexibility to respond to constantly changing conditions and priorities.
  • Safety and Security Observes safety and security procedures, Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines, Reports potentially unsafe conditions, Uses equipment and material properly.
  • Initiative Volunteers readily, Seeks increased responsibilities, Takes independent actions and calculated risks. Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering or a related science; advanced degree preferable.
  • Communication Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and external contacts.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations pertaining to EHS required.
