Job Overview:

The Head of Engineering and Commercialization is primarily responsible for the asset reliability and capital execution.  This will include responsibility for the development and execution of the 3-year capital plan through working in coordination and collaboration with the plant leadership team, R&D, Safety, Supply Chain, Quality, and commercial to ensure strategy is in concert with business needs and regulations.  The position will create the plan, business case, and capital request documents, and execute the strategic plan with assistance from plant engineers and leadership. 

She/he will perform the tasks by  developing and leading goals, strategies and work plans that address all manufacturing issues including Quality, Cost, Delivery, Supply Chain KPI's Security, Contract Maintenance, Asset Control, Productivity, Cash Flow, Strategic Sourcing, Compliance to Specification, leveraging Engineering best practices, organizational health and other areas as needed.

Responsibility for maintaining critical alignment and linkage to Supply Chain projects and manufacturing strategy initiatives.  Supports Acquisition and Divestiture activities as directed. 


Job Responsibilities:

  • Align with business strategies and long-term volume projections providing insights and knowledge of industry and capabilities. Knowable of current technology and engineering and equipment companies who are top in their field and the servicing of equipment.


  • Oversee Engineering department in execution of engineering projects, including planning and tracking. Assure that projects are delivered on time, within specification and budget. Perform gap analysis versus current practice and lead corrective actions, ensure that best practices are known and understood within project or study term and that identified company expertise is known and exploited.  Strong Engineering and Project Management to ensure a successful development and implementation of a capital plan.


  • Oversee budget and manage infrastructure to provide high-level service for Operation and Business Unit. Ensure budget is planned correctly and monitor spending and accruals.  Manage investments in infrastructure.


  • Provides dotted line functional support to plant Engineering staff and solid line when partnered on large projects.


  • Drives speed to market via development at Internal/External Manufacturing to minimize commercialization timelines and processes through coordination, strong communications and contingency development.


  • Leads bidding, negotiation and contracting by utilizing templates and adhering to policies and controls to protect ACH's interests.


  • Supports business on strategic initiatives, providing information and critical thinking to further business needs.


  • Proactively review business and consumer needs, transforming business needs into realizable propositions. Initiate creation of adequate conversion product team and assure its direct linkage to customer.  Communicate Plant product opportunities and ensure optimal utilization of Plant capacities, while fulfilling strategic plans.


  • New product launch and modifications ensuring conversion product launch preparation and launch via adequate coordination, contingencies and communications.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Food Science is required or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • CAD or other drawing software, excel, MS Project
  • Strong Technical background with proven project management and capital execution experience.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with different levels inside and outside the organization.
  • Excellent presentation skills with solid oral and written communication capabilities.
  • Proven leadership skills, ability to manage through ambiguity and drive for results.
  • Strong interpersonal capabilities and ability to work cross-functionally with other leaders.
  • Must have strong negotiation and influencing skills.
